President Jim challenges and encourages each one of you to bring a guest/potential member to at least one meeting this month. There is a potential Rotarian in anyone who cares about their community and has a desire to engage in civic responsibility to make the world a better place. Thus, please take the time to bring one or more individuals who subscribe to our Rotary values.
Incoming RI President Ian Riseley said it is imperative that clubs find ways to attract and engage young members. Today about 5 % of reported members are under 40, and a majority of members are over 60. "Consider what Rotary stands to look like 10 or 20 years from now if we don't get very serious, very soon, about bringing in new members."

Member information - please submit any changes to your mailing and/or home addresses and emails to Ida (edal@mchsi.com). Thank you!

Congratulations!

Rotary Foundation
A Special Year for Our Rotary Foundation

District Rotary Foundation Chair Terry Geiger reminds Rotarians that the Rotary Foundation is celebrating the Centennial year, 100 years since Arch Klumph proposed the idea that Rotary have a foundation "For Doing Good in the World." The mission statement of the Rotary Foundation is:"...to enable Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty."

Please note: The Foundation Committee will show a 3 minute video monthly and make short comments to educate and motivate club members involvement in contributing to the Rotary Foundation as part of their quarterly dues or otherwise as they desire.

The daughter of a Macedonian foreign service officer, Anja Nikolova grew up in London, New York and Venice.  Her globe-trotting childhood gave her a gift for languages – she is fluent in five – but also a passion for international environmental issues.  With the aid of global grants funded by Rotary districts in Texas, Oklahoma and Connecticut, Nikolova is presently working toward her master’s degree in environmental management at Yale University.   She is interested in tying together the environment and economics on a large scale in order to understand the feasibility of certain environmental projects.  She states, “In the end, if whatever you pursue doesn’t make business sense, it’s probably not going to work.  That has be acknowledged and seen as an opportunity rather than a threat. “   When in Ghana, she worked on a community agricultural and forestry project where villagers were empowered to farm the products that were in a National Park and sell them.  They did not have the technical support to sell the projects at a scale that was profitable, so Nikolova connected this project with Rotarians and together they managed to raise more than $100,000 to move forward.   Your dollars to The Rotary Foundation to support scholars such as Nikolova, enables this to happen. Thank you.
