  • FACTOID: Rotary International is making its website more user friendly, starting July 1. To get information about our club, log on to rotary.org/myrotary. You do have to establish your user name and password.
  • President Jim thanked the auction committee for all their hard work making the Auction a great experience and a successful fundraising event.
  • Auction wrap-up meeting will be Tuesday, May 16 at 4:00 pm in the Clinton National Bank Trust Bldg.
  • The May Rotary Board meeting will be Friday, May 12 at 7:00 am at Happy Joe's.
  • Mark your calendar: The final Quarterly Assembly evening dinner meeting will be held Monday, June 5 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  President Jim noted that we need 1/3 of membership for a quorum to elect three new board members. We need two more members to join the nominating committee. Let either Rich Klahn, Jennifer Graf or Shannon Sander-Welzien know if you want to join the committee. Lynn will continue to serve as treasurer and Ida as secretary for the coming year. 
  • The Rotary International Projects Committee recommended for consideration funding $3,500 for an agricultural project in Haiti.
  • President Jim was informed by D6000 that Interact is now officially chartered.
  • Please mark your calendar: no meeting May 29 - Memorial Day and July 3 - 4th of July holiday.
  • Rich Klahn will start his club presidency July 10.
  • Upcoming Club Programs are being posted once a month in the Clinton Herald.

RYLA
The Rotary Club of Clinton is again offering an opportunity for two local students to attend the nationally-known leadership conference RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).    The six-day over-night Rotary Youth Leadership conference will host students from across Iowa at Grinnell College from Sunday, July 16 through Friday, July 21. The Rotary Club of Clinton will pay all fees, including room and board for the two students who are honored by selection.  Attendees must be present for the entire conference.

Program for August 7, 2017 - held on the grounds of the Bickelhaupt Arboretum. Lunch catered by Rastrelli's.
Topic: The 2017 "Arts at the Arb"  will feature portrait photographer Jean Black who will speak to the group about the 130 photos of area children displayed around the grounds.
Please carpool. Parking is limited. Carts and drivers will be giving tours of the Arboretum if you can stay after the meeting.

Program: Rotarians Sean Williams and Julie Dunn informed about the Clinton Oncology center and the need for a new dual energy linear accelerator to replace the one installed in 2004.  Linear accelerators last about 10 years. The cost is $8M. Portal Vision will be part of the new project. The Radiation services are affiliated with the University of Iowa's knowledge and cutting edge technology.

Rotary Foundation
A Special Year for Our Rotary Foundation
For the past several weeks the Foundation Minute has presented several global grant recipients within the United States.  According to The Rotary Foundation, there were forty last year!  And here are several more that deserve recognition: 
 
With the help of The Rotary Club of Pune-Kothrud in India, The Rotary Club of Bridgeport was able to provide Smart Boards to engage 250 students in classroom learning in
Foundation Committee will show a 3 minute video monthly and make short comments to educate and motivate club members involvement in contributing to the Rotary Foundation as part of their quarterly dues or otherwise as they desire.

The Rotary Club of West Hartford Connecticut with the help of The Rotary of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands provided the American School for the Deaf a studio with equipment curriculum materials, and professional development activities for teachers in order to improve literacy to 222 students in West Hartford. 
 
And the Westchester Rotary Club in Los Angeles provided rehabilitation and improvements to the Safe Place for Youth homeless outreach center in order to administer job training and counseling to homeless youth in Los Angeles, California with the financial help of the Rotary Club of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. 
 
Our Rotary Foundation which turned 100 last year continues to improve the lives and communities all over the world  and stands in the forefront of humanitarian service.  Thank you for your support.
